Irreversible errors
The negative sides to the death penalty are very much often overlooked. There have been many cases where criminals have been wrong and falsely accused, sentenced, and executed for crimes they never committed. Those who oppose the death penalty point out the fact that many have been falsely accused and executed. In 1987, Stanford Law Review article had reported about 350 cases of wrong and mistaken convictions. Thurgood Marshall wrote, “No matter how careful courts are the possibility of mistaken testimony and human error remain all too real…” (“Capital Punishment”, Gale, 2010)
