Governor Pat Quinn signed legislation ending capital punishment in Illinois on March 9, 2011, meaning that in Chicago we are part of those who are trying to abolish the death penalty. When the governors sign the abolition contract he said “Since our experience has shown that there is no way to design a perfect death penalty system, free from the numerous flaws that can lead to wrongful convictions or discriminatory treatment, I have concluded that the proper course of action is to abolish it”(http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/documents/RWardenIL.pdf) Chicago resident cannot face the death penalty in Chicago but they can be in the death row and be executed in another state depending on the crime they commit. Students from public school can ally with different organizations that work nationally, creating campaigns that will inform others student about the death penalty, and influence more and more campaigns in different states that will sooner or later become something big in which people would be able to start collecting enough support to abolish the death penalty nation wise. Everything has to start from students and schools making their voices be heard from their point of views.
